In China, they reacted to the explosion of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station on the night of June 6. China’s Permanent Representative to the UN Zhang Jun said that Beijing is “deeply alarmed by the situation around the Kakhovskaya HPP and its environmental consequences.”
At the same time, in his speech, he called on “all parties to the conflict” to comply with international humanitarian law. The Chinese representative said this during an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council, convened because of the June 6 terrorist attack.
In his speech, Zhang Jun said that Beijing is “deeply concerned” about the situation around the Kakhovskaya HPP and its environmental consequences.
“We express deep concern about the destruction of the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station,” the Chinese diplomat said.
At the same time, he added that China calls on “all parties to the conflict” to respect international humanitarian law and make every effort to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure.
A similar position was formulated in Beijing in response to a request from the Ukrainian publication Ukrinform to the office of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“Under the current circumstances, we hope that all parties will be committed to a political settlement of the Ukrainian crisis and will contribute to easing the situation,” the Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a written response.
They also stressed that Beijing’s position on the “crisis” remains “consistent and clear.
Recall, on the morning of June 6, it became known that the invaders blew up the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station, up to 80 settlements were under the threat of flooding.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called the Russian-made terrorist attack the biggest man-made eco-catastrophe in Europe in decades, and Western leaders one after another called Russia responsible for blowing up the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station and noted that “terrorists do not stop if they are not stopped.”
In the settlements of Kherson, falling into the flooding zone, they announced the evacuation of the population. According to the UN, by the evening of June 6, 16,000 people had lost their homes.
At the initiative of Ukraine, an extraordinary meeting of the UN Security Council was convened because of the terrorist attack committed by the Russian Federation, during which representatives of the states that are members of this body discussed the blowing up of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station. And while most members of this body condemned Russia for a terrible terrorist attack, the representative of the Russian Federation, Vasily Nebenzya, issued that Ukraine allegedly blew up the hydroelectric power station in order to have an advantage in the counteroffensive.
