(ANSA) – TEL AVIV, 08 NOV – The cell phones of activists of six Palestinian human rights NGOs recently declared illegal by Israel and accused of “terrorism” were “previously violated by sophisticated spyware made by Nso”, company of cyber intelligence controlled by the Israeli defense ministry. This was reported by the Guardian citing a report by ‘Front Line Defenders (Fld), an association for the defense of human rights based in Dublin in Ireland.
According to FLD, the cell phones of Salah Hammouri – a Palestinian activist and Jerusalem lawyer whose status as a resident in the city has been revoked – and of 5 other militants were hacked with Pegasus, the characteristic spyware of NSO. In one case, the proceedings were found to have been ongoing since July 2020.
The Guardian argued that “there is no technical evidence confirming that Israel ordered the hacking of the six Palestinians but that each of these works for organizations that have been targeted and accused of crimes by the Israeli authorities.” (HANDLE).
