Guinness: Venezuela is the largest orchestra in the world

(ANSA) – CARACAS, NOV 20 – The organization that manages the Guinness Book of Records today confirmed that Venezuela’s national system of orchestras and choirs has conquered the record for the largest orchestral formation in the world, attempted on 13 November last with 12,000 musicians who played Piotr Ilych Tchaikovsky’s ‘Slavic March’.

The previous record, recalls the newspaper El Nacional of Caracas, belonged since September 2019 to a Russian orchestra in St. Petersburg, composed of 8,097 musicians.

In a statement read during a concert in Caracas, the official spokesperson for the awarding of records, the Mexican Susana Reyes, read a statement in which she stressed that “the challenge was to exceed the number of 8,097 musicians and this was achieved. We hope that the system will try to set more records in the future.

For his part, the Venezuelan Minister of Culture, Freddy Náñez, stressed that “this is not just a victory for the ‘System’, but for the whole country”. (HANDLE).
