(ANSA) – SAN PAOLO, 23 NOV – In Brazil, at least 27 cities in the hinterland of Sao Paulo, the richest and most populous state in the country, will not have a street carnival in 2022: Folhapress announced.
The fear among the mayors of the various municipalities involved is that the event, synonymous with gatherings, favors the spread of Covid-19.
Among the municipalities that canceled the event are Mogi das Cruzes, Ubatuba and Taubaté.
The 2022 street carnival in the megalopolis of Sao Paulo, the largest capital city of Brazil, still depends on the approval of local health agencies, which assess the epidemiological scenario of the coronavirus pandemic.
So far the Municipality has received 867 requests from as many ‘blocos de rua’ (street carnival groups) to be able to parade between February 19 and March 6 next year.
