Covid: Bennett, Israel on ’emergency brink’

(ANSA) – TEL AVIV, NOV 26 – Israel is “on the verge of an emergency”. Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said this, asking “everyone to be ready to work 24 hours a day”.

The premier’s statement came after the news that the first case of the new South African variant B.1.1.529 in a citizen returned from Malawi was detected in the country.

Bennett – who has already decided to block the arrival in Israel of citizens of 6 countries of southern Africa and imposed restrictions on Israelis returning from those places – held a new emergency meeting this morning on the implications that the new variant may behave for Israel.

Finally, he recalled the importance of the ‘Omega’ national exercise on health emergency situations held a week ago. (HANDLE).
