Brazil: agents with body-cams to inhibit ‘easy trigger’

To try to prevent, or at least inhibit the trigger-happy of many agents in Brazil, police and law enforcement officers in some of the most populous states will begin equipping policemen with mandatory body-cams, subjective cameras to be attached to the uniform, when on duty.
The violence of the police and security forces, mirroring that of gangs and drug trafficking, is now almost no longer news in Brazil, where only in 2020, the media, the victims of agents – who are sometimes suspected of acting as real and own death squads – amounted to 6.00. last weekend a raid in a favela in Rio left nine corpses on the ground, last May in an attack on the Jacarezinho barracks, where crime lurks, with the use of armored cars, the dead were 28.
In the state of Sao Paulo, the most populous, agents have already begun experimenting with the use of the body-cam for over a year and the first statistics report a certain decline in the number of victims. “We still have a long way to go, but the reduction in lethal use of force is already quite marked,” Col. Robson Cabanas, military commander of Sao Paulo. The state of Rio has ordered 22,000 body cams but they have not yet entered service.
