(ANSA) – MADRID, NOV 29 – Spain says goodbye to Almudena Grandes, a highly successful and prestigious Madrid writer who passed away on Saturday at the age of 61 after falling ill with cancer. As shown by images of public television Tve, the coffin with the body of Grandes arrived at 12 am with applause at the civil cemetery of the Almudena in Madrid to celebrate his funeral. To remember her, hundreds of people went to the cemetery with copies of some of her books, reports the Efe news agency.
Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez was also present at the funeral ceremony, who today honored the writer with a column published in the newspaper El País. “Almudena Grandes was a fundamental author of our literature, but also to understand us as a country,” he wrote.
