According to Moderna President Stephen Hoge, boosters, which will contain genes that target the mutation, will have to overcome the expected decrease in the effectiveness of the drug.

Moderna has already begun developing a multivalent vaccine that will be effective against four different coronavirus variants at once. The development of a drug against the Omicron coronavirus strain will last for several months.

Will Ukraine close borders because of Omicron?

The new Omicron strain is spreading around the world. It is not yet known for sure whether quarantine restrictions will be strengthened due to a new variation of the coronavirus, because Omicron has not been sufficiently studied.

The world does not yet understand the full threat that this strain can carry.

“If we do not see the greater aggressiveness of this virus, then, in principle, all the quarantine restrictions that were in force under Delta,” said Minister of Health Viktor Lyashko.

At the same time, the head of the Ministry of Health suggests that Ukraine can close borders again.

“Today there are vaccines and there are direct-acting drugs. We are taking certain restrictive measures. Some countries are closing. While there is a certain uncertainty. All unknowns will become known rather quickly. After that, a decision will be made,” the minister added.
