The study of a new strain of coronavirus “Omicron” was published – it is detected in vaccinated

Of the 43 known cases of infection with the Omicron coronavirus strain in the United States, most were found in vaccinated individuals. The symptoms of the disease were mostly not severe. This was announced during a briefing by the director of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Rochelle Walenski, Voice of America reports.

“80% of known cases of infection with the Omicron strain in the United States were detected in people who were fully vaccinated, six had previously been ill with COVID-19. Almost all of the disease manifested itself in a mild form,” Walenski said.

She noted that the mild form of the disease is in line with the expectations for vaccinated individuals. One patient needed a two-day inpatient treatment.

The first case of infection with the Omicron strain in the United States was detected on December 1, 2021. The earliest symptom report among the 43 investigated cases of Omicron was reported on November 15, the CDC said.

Now more than 99.9% of cases of coronavirus infection in the United States are attributable to the Delta strain, epidemiologists noted.

To contain the spread of the coronavirus, the CDC is highlighting the need for vaccinations, masking, airing, quarantine and isolation.

“While we do not have all of the responses to the Omicron strain, preliminary data show that additional COVID-19 vaccinations are helping to increase protection against Omicron,” Walenski added.

“So far, as of December 10, the Omicron strain has not been detected in Ukraine. The point is that this strain has not been detected in the laboratory,” the doctors told us.

At the same time, the doctors clarified that despite the many disturbing rumors about the alleged lack of the necessary tests, the situation is not dire.

• patients complained of severe fatigue;
• a six-year-old patient has a rapid pulse and high temperature;
• no loss of taste or smell was observed in patients.

Young people are most affected by the new strain, she said. Omicron may become more dangerous than Delta. Also it is unclear whether the vaccine available in the world and in Ukraine will protect against COVID-19 caused by this strain.
