(ANSA) – PORT AU PRINCE, DEC 15 – The toll from the explosion, Monday night, of a tank truck carrying petrol in Cap Haitien, the second most important city in Haiti, has further worsened to 75 dead and at least 45 burned.
Local authorities, reports today the Haiti Libre portal, have specified that 15 deaths in hospitals have been added to the 60 deaths at the site of the explosion. It still remains unknown whether charred corpses are found in the twenty or so houses engulfed in flames.
For his part, the director general of the Haitian Ministry of Health, Lauré Adrien, announced that 21 of the most serious burns were transferred by helicopter to the hospitals of Port-au-Prince (managed by Doctors Without Borders), Mirebalais and Hinche, while in Cap Haitien a field hospital was set up for the admission of the wounded who were in various departmental hospitals, including the Justinien, the Convention Baptiste d’Haiti, and the Sacré Cœur de Milot.
