Thousands of supporters of former pro-Iranian Iraqi paramilitaries of Hashd al-Chaabi took to the streets of Baghdad to celebrate the second anniversary of the assassination of Iranian general Qassem Soleimani in a US drone strike.
On the night of January 3, 2020, on the orders of then President Donald Trump, a drone hit the vehicle in which Soleimani and Lieutenant Abu Mehdi al-Mouhandis, number two of Hachd al-Chaabi were traveling.
“No to America!” Protesters shouted today some of whom were showing portraits of Soleimani and Mouhandis. “US Terrorism Must End,” a sign read. Faleh al-Fayyad, a senior Hashd official, hailed the memory of the two “martyrs” in a speech to the crowd calling the assassination “a crime against Iraqi sovereignty”. (ANSA-AFP).
