(ANSA) – SANTIAGO DEL CHILE, JAN 03 – A group of Chilean beekeepers, dissatisfied with the government policy for the sector, today staged an unusual protest by transporting 25 beehives in front of the Moneda presidential palace in Santiago, Chile, and opening some to free the insects that were inside.

In this regard, the lieutenant colonel of the Carabineros, Gerardo Aravena, told the newspaper El Mercurio that “the agents asked the demonstrators to leave the place immediately, but having received a negative response they arrested four”, for causing unrest and putting the health of passers-by is at risk.

The senior official finally specified that the gesture of the beekeepers, who displayed a banner that said ‘Bees are life’, did not cause problems for the population, while some officers had to be medicated for being stung. (HANDLE).
