(ANSA) – ROME, JANUARY 05 – With the shortage of staff caused by the Omicron variant of Covid, which has forced thousands of workers in isolation in the United States, a hotel in California has decided to use robot waiters. They are called Relay Robots and were designed by the Savioke company. The Radisson Hotel in Sunnyvale is using them mostly to serve drinks to guests but they are also able to call the elevator and press the destination floor, and walk around the reception. Once they arrive in front of a room, they announce their presence, the guest goes out, the robot opens the door on his ‘belly’ and the guest collects the ordered drinks.
“You don’t have to tip him and you don’t even have to get dressed,” Savioke CEO Steve Cousins told 7news.
The use of robots has reduced the waiting time for room service from 30 to five minutes in many cases. And then there is the anxiety factor. According to the director of the Sunnyvale Radisson, Alex Martinez, there are many guests who are more comfortable receiving their order without any human contact. (HANDLE).
