A British performing arts school that had named one of its campus buildings after JK Rowling, in honor of her Harry Potter saga, decided to back down due to the writer’s views on transsexuals.
Boswells School in Chelmsford – in Essex, East England – has replaced Rowling’s name with that of British athlete Kelly Holmes. The principal, Stephen Mansell, explained that his school wants to create “a vibrant, inclusive and democratic school community, where we encourage students to become independent and confident citizens.”
The decision was made last July in the light of some tweets criticized also by LGBT groups in which Rowling stated among other things that the so-called “people with the menstrual cycle” must simply be defined as women.
For the same tweets Rowling was also criticized by actor Daniel Radcliffe, who as a teenager had played the character of Harry Potter. (HANDLE).
