Djokovic: new demonstration in support of him in Belgrade

(ANSA) – BELGRADE, 09 JAN – Hundreds of people, for the third consecutive day, gathered today in front of the Serbian parliament in Belgrade to express support and solidarity with Novak Djokovic, the number one in world tennis always stuck in Melbourne in a hotel for immigrants and asylum seekers due to its non-regular position under the Australian legislation on vaccination requirements and anticovid prevention measures. “Now we can no longer talk about the Australian Open, it is not an ‘open’ tournament, but a ‘closed’ tournament”, said the champion’s father, Srdjan Djokovic, who was present at the rally together with his wife Dijana. “The people and the whole world are with him – he added. Everyone supports him, Orthodox, Muslims, Buddhists. For him this is worth more than the victory in dozens of Grand Slams. You have seen the support given to him in front of the hotel”.

Djokovic’s mother, for her part, thanked all those who came to demonstrate in favor of her son despite the cold and bad weather. “I know you don’t sleep for him. Please, with the prayer to give him the strength to overcome what happened to him in Australia,” said the mother of the Serbian champion. Novak Djokovic will remain locked in the hotel until the decision on the appeal filed by his lawyers, expected on Monday. (HANDLE).
