Israel: media, Netanyahu tries to negotiate in the process

(ANSA) – TEL AVIV, 13 JAN – Former Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu is trying to negotiate in the ongoing trial against him in Jerusalem for corruption, fraud and abuse of power. For this reason – according to reports from the Maariv newspaper – he had confidential meetings with the Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit and with other senior officials of the prosecutor’s office. According to the same newspaper, the parties have kept the meetings “secret” with the aim of reaching an agreement before it is burned by rumors.

Above all – wrote in the newspaper Ben Caspit – Netanyahu who has always claimed, especially with his supporters, that “there will be nothing because there is nothing” and that he wants to fight to prove his innocence in court. At the moment, however, the parties seem to be distant: in particular due to the insistence of the former prime minister not to have moral sentences in the plea bargain that would prevent him from continuing his political life.
