Holidays before Philip’s funeral, Johnson apologizes

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, through his spokesperson, officially apologizes to Buckingham Palace for the two parties that took place in Downing Street the day before Prince Philip’s funeral.

Alcohol and partying the night before Prince Philip’s funeral would be held in Downing Street, where Boris Johnson’s staff would gather to greet James Slack, the premier’s head of communications when the country was no longer in lockdown but under severe restrictions on social contacts. It was April 16, 2021 and the next day the whole world would see the images of the queen sitting alone in the church, at her husband’s funeral, in compliance with the anti-covid rules. The Telegraph tells it exclusively, citing new reports on the party-gate after the premier’s admissions on a meeting in the Downing Street garden in May 2020 when the United Kingdom was in lockdown.

According to the Telegraph, advisers and public officials gathered after work on two occasions, on April 16 last year, to greet Slack and also to dismiss one of the prime minister’s personal photographers. On both occasions there would be no shortage of alcohol and witnesses would tell the Telegraph of people drinking and dancing late into the night. And of a staff member who would be sent to a nearby supermarket with a suitcase to be filled with bottles of wine. Also according to the Telegraph, a witness said he saw a staff member use and break, in the garden, the swing of Johnson’s son, Wilfred.
