Research applied to healthcare workers in South Africa shows that the greatest reduction in hospitalizations occurs between one and two months after the booster dose.
A study by the Medical Research Council of South Africa and released this Friday, 14th, in partnership with Johnson & Johnson, shows that the booster dose of the vaccine Janssen, developed by the American pharmaceutical company, is 85% effective against hospitalizations for infections caused by Ômicron variant of the new coronavirus within a period of between 1 and 2 months after the application of the vaccine. In a statement, the head of the research council, Glenda Gray, said that the vaccine’s effectiveness levels could be considered ‘high’ against the strain, which was discovered in the African country and already dominates the nation’s infections. The study looked at 477,000 healthcare professionals who were immunized with the single-dose vaccine. Just under half of them had received reinforcements. According to data analysis, in the first two weeks after the booster dose was applied, hospitalizations were reduced by 63%; between one and two months post-dose, the reduction was 85%.
