WHO, + 20% cases worldwide in the last week

(ANSA) – ROME, 19 JAN – In the last week, 18 million new cases of Covid-19 have been registered in the world, with an increase of 20% compared to the previous seven days. The World Health Organization highlights this in the weekly update on the pandemic. According to the WHO, there were 45,000 global deaths over the same period, a similar number to the previous week.

According to the data, Italy ranks fourth among the countries in the world where the highest number of new cases of Covid-19 has been recorded in the last week: the highest number is recorded in the USA (4,688,466 cases, similar to the previous week), then France (2.012.943, + 26%), India (1.594.160, + 150%) and Italy (1.268.153, + 25%). In fifth place the United Kingdom with 813,326 new cases, a decrease of 33% compared to the previous seven days.

The Italian data indicates a slowdown in the contagion curve: last week’s survey indicated an increase of 57%. (HANDLE).
