    Covid: 7 other cases in Beijing two weeks before the Games

    (ANSA) – BEIJING, 22 JAN – The city of Beijing has reported another 7 cases of Covid-19 locally transmitted and 5 asymptomatic from midnight to 16:00 today, two weeks after the opening of the Winter Olympic Games.

    Pang Xinghuo, number two of the municipality’s Disease Prevention and Control Center, explained that since January 15 the city has registered a total of 18 local and 5 asymptomatic infections in Haidian, Chaoyang, Fengtai and Fangshan districts. The epidemiological examination and the results of the genetic sequencing of the virus revealed two different sources of infection: one linked to the international mail that carried the Omicron variant and the other to imported cold chain goods infected with the Delta strain.

    Among the 23 cases, five are Omicron and 13 Delta infections, plus five asymptomatic carriers, always of the Delta variant. Pang, in a press conference, noted that the prevention and control of the epidemic in the city is at a critical stage and that a rapid response is needed in the epidemiological investigation, in health screening and in the measures of control and research of sources.

    In the morning, after presiding over the meeting dedicated to the pandemic risk, Cai Qi, secretary of the CCP in Beijing, went to the Fengtai district to inspect the prevention works and to visit the staff on the front line. Cai, local media reported, called for timely and rigorous action to control the risks and block the transmission chain, as well as the fastest and most effective measures possible to ensure the safety of the public and the safe conduct of Beijing 2022. .

    Cai stressed that the Fengtai district is currently the most critical area in Beijing, prompting even more careful and effective action. (HANDLE).
