Migrants: Canaries, yesterday’s shipwreck 42 miles from Lanzarote

(ANSA) – MADRID, JAN 26 – The sinking of a rubber dinghy with migrants on board which took place last night on the route to the Canary Islands occurred at a distance of about 36 miles north of Tarfaya (Morocco) and 42 miles south- east of Arrecife, a town on the Spanish island of Lanzarote. This was reported to ANSA by the Iberian country’s maritime emergencies service. The nine survivors were rescued around 11 pm last night, add maritime rescue sources. A few hours earlier, the NGO Caminando Fronteras had received a request for help from this dinghy in difficulty.

Some of the survivors reported to the Spanish authorities that there were 18 other people on board with them, of whom they would have lost track at sea: the delegation of the Iberian government in the Canary Islands reports to ANSA. (HANDLE).
