The number of deaths caused by heavy rains and floods that hit the La Gasca sector in Quito yesterday, also causing serious damage to infrastructures, rose to 16. The newspaper El Comercio reports it today.
On its online page, the newspaper indicated that Ecuador’s National Risk and Emergency Management Service (Sngre) provided an updated fatal death toll in the morning, bringing it to 14, from eleven yesterday, but soon after rescuers reported the discovery of two other corpses, for a total of 16 deaths.
However, the rescue operations continue, with the contribution of firefighters, police and volunteers, because there are still a certain number of people considered missing.
