Costa Rica: first presidential results, there is a ballot

(ANSA) – SAN JOSÉ, 06 FEB – The first official results released by the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) regarding the presidential elections held yesterday in Costa Rica show the almost certain need for a ballot to define the candidate who will succeed the outgoing Carlos Alvarado.

On the basis of the ballot papers of 29.4% of the seats, the former president of the republic José María Figueres (1994-1998) of the Liberación Nacional party appears at the top of the 25 candidates, with 28.32%, followed by three other candidates: Fabricio Alvarado from the Nueva República party (16.70%), Rodrigo Chaves from the Progreso Social Democrático party (16.42%) and Lineth Saborío from the Unidad Social Cristiana party (13.80%).

Voter turnout, considered quite low by analysts, was 57.68%. (HANDLE).
