Primacy in the sign of three at the BMW plant in Leipzig. The German factory, which currently assembles three models of the Propeller House (1 Series, 2 Series Gran Coupé and 2 Series Active Tourer), has churned out specimen number 3,333,333 since its opening in 2005.
The car of the singular milestone is a 128ti petrol engine with a 2.0 twinpower turbo engine of 265 HP, in a very eye-catching ‘Melbourne’ red color combined with black details.
For the Leipzig plant, which has been in operation for 18 years, four other ‘historic’ cars are to be mentioned: these are the start-up model of production, a 320i assembled in March 2005, the 1 million built in December 2011, a 116d white. Still, of the two millionth, an electric i3 in ‘protonic’ blue that left the line in October 2016 and of the ‘sunset’ orange M240i Convertible which in 2021 marked 3 million units.
Leipzig currently builds 350,000 cars a year. With the start of local production of the Mini Countryman as well, the challenge for the 4 millionth example therefore extends to four models of the two brands of the group, each assembled in a specific line with the possibility of grafting an internal combustion engine , plug-in or pure electric.
