The Stellantis Italia plant in Cassino, where today vehicles of premium and luxury brands are produced, such as Alfa Romeo and Maserati, will extend its activity to the production of electric vehicles based on the “flexible BEV Stla Large” platform. The details of the models will be communicated later. This was announced by the CEO of Stellantis Carlos Tavares during a visit to the high-tech plant where the Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio and Maserati Grecale models are produced. Stla Large is one of the four electric platforms (Bev) on which the electrification plan of Stellantis is based. “The Cassino plant boasts a long tradition of innovation and technology,” said Carlos Tavares of Stellantis. “The vehicles based on the Stla Large platform that we are designing will revolutionize the driving experience thanks to cutting-edge functionality and features and for this, we trust the great expertise of our employees and the Stellantis management team to be able to achieve our bold goals linked to cost and quality. The support of Cassino employees and the foresight of local and national authorities are a great incentive for us to develop vehicles capable of winning over customers with clean, safe and accessible mobility”. After the Windsor Assembly Plant in Canada, Cassino is the second Stellantis plant that has been publicly announced to be used to produce vehicles based on the STLA Large platform. Inaugurated in 1972, the Cassino plant, located in Piedimonte San Germano, in central-southern Italy, is a highly automated plant that uses over 1200 robots that perform the operations of moulding, sheeting, painting and the production of plastic parts. The plant places great emphasis on energy saving and resource conservation. Since 2017, water consumption has been halved, while photovoltaic panels located in the internal car parks allow for the production of solar energy. Stellantis plans to invest more than 30 billion euros by 2025 in electrification and in the development of the software necessary to produce BEV vehicles capable of meeting customer needs, not least a class-leading fast charging capability.

“After the important renewal agreement of the Stellantis specific employment contract which led to a wage increase of over 207 euros per month over the two-year period, the communication made by the CEO of Stellantis Carlos Taváres, on a visit to the Cassino plant, which foresees the destination in this important production reality of the future Stla large bev platform is very positive and full of promising employment prospects for the Cassino site for the territory and nationally”. This is the comment of Ferdinando Uliano, national secretary of the Fim. “After the destination of the medium platform in Melfi which foresees the launch of four new models, the one in Cassino is undoubtedly a very important novelty – underlines Uliano – given the difficulties experienced by the Ciociaria plant due to the low production levels of recent years. After the departure production of the Maserati Grecale and the launch of this important investment the future conditions of this plant are no longer in question. Now we will ask the Group as soon as possible to define the times and models destined for the plant. These are the results of our union action like Fim- Cisl, contract renewals and investments are the only ways to guarantee the income and work of workers and their families, as well as building the conditions for maintaining an important reality in the automotive sector in our country”.
