Stolen car cemetery discovered in Gravina in Tarantino

In the heart of the Triglio ravine, also known as the “mouth of the thieves”, in the Municipality of Crispiano (Taranto), the carabinieri have discovered a real “cemetery” of stolen cars. About ten vehicles stolen, some of which were completely burnt, were recovered thanks to the help of the Carabinieri Helicopter Squadron “Cacciatori Puglia” and the National Alpine and Speleological Rescue Corps, who intervened in consideration of the particular morphological conformation of the place. The carabinieri managed to descend about 20 meters deep, with slings, inside the gorge of the ravine. In this way, the recovery operations of the cars found to be stolen in the province of Taranto were possible.

The operation, which was also attended by personnel of the Taranto Carabinieri Forestry Group, was preparatory to the environmental impact assessments. In fact, there were mechanical parts and batteries which, if not removed, could have contributed to soil pollution, in a protected area, rich in flora and fauna, within the Terra delle Gravine Regional Park.
