Cars prohibited in Lampedusa in summer, in Linosa until October

From June 1st to October 31st it will be forbidden to disembark and circulate in Linosa with vehicles not belonging to residents. From 25 July to 5 September the same ban will also be in force in Lampedusa. The decree was signed by the Minister of Infrastructure Matteo Salvini, after the resolution of the municipal council, the authorization of the Prefecture of Agrigento and the favorable opinion of the Region. It is the first measure of this kind in the two Pelagie islands.

The prohibition does not include vehicles that carry disabled people, provided they have a permit, those of public entities involved in police, health and public interest services, vehicles used for the installation and maintenance of systems and services for the community, as well as those used for food and water supply. The mayor of the Pelagie, Filippo Mannino, can issue authorizations – it has been foreseen – for particular reasons, after having acquired the compliant opinion of the prefect of Agrigento. In the event of violations, an administrative fine ranging from 430 to 1,731 euros is envisaged.
