Scooters, in Florence the police are deploying control patrols

Three patrols dedicated to the control of scooters in Florence. It is the new service of the municipal police aimed at road safety which started today in the center and on the cycle paths along the riversides. As stated in a note from the Municipality, the objective of the activity, which will be carried out by personnel of the community police department, in this first phase is above all to inform about the rules of use of this means such as the use of the case for the under 18, do not travel in twos, do not carry material, respect the speed limits (6 km per hour in pedestrian areas, 20 km per hour elsewhere). The aim is also to make drivers aware of compliance with the rules, especially with regard to behaviors that put the safety of both the driver and other road users at risk. The agents will move on foot, with particular attention to the pedestrian areas in this period very popular with tourists, and by scooter also for the control of the cycle paths on the riversides, much used to reach the center. “The scooter is an ecological and useful means of transport for short journeys but it is essential that drivers respect the rules for their own and others’ safety”. In 2022 there were 85 accidents that saw the involvement of a scooter, 65 of which with injuries – underlined the councilor for mobility and municipal police Stefano Giorgetti – As an administration we are strongly committed to road safety and for some time we have asked for rules on scooters that facilitate checks such as the identification plate and compulsory insurance as well as the obligation to wear a helmet for everyone. I thank the commander of the municipal police Francesco Passaretti for this service which represents the first phase of the road safety campaign which is about to start.
