A faithfully rebuilt Hyundai Pony Coupe Concept, almost 50 years since its original debut. The vehicle is the one that Hyundai presented in world preview yesterday evening on Lake Como. The Korean house unveiled the rebuilt Pony Coupé Concept at the Hyundai Reunion event, the brand’s event platform and which represents a meeting point between the past and the vision of the future.
Giorgetto Giugiaro also took part in the presentation, announced the offset, who faithfully reconstructed the model, after having initially conceived it in the seventies.
The project, announced last November and created by Gfg Style, was designed to bring back to life the car that gave rise to the creation of the brand’s Pony range.
“Despite an unfavorable industrial fabric in the 1970s – said Euisun Chung, executive chair of Hyundai Motor Group – my grandfather, the president and founder of Hyundai Ju-young Chung, dedicated all of himself to the reconstruction of the Korean economy and the improving people’s lives after the devastating Korean War. Finally, he realized his vision of making Korea a country capable of developing its own vehicles in a state-of-the-art manner.”
Due to adverse global economic conditions in the late 1970s, what could have been Hyundai’s first sports car failed to reach commercial production and was lost to memory.
Pony Coupe Concept is now considered a retro-futuristic classic and an inspiration for more recent Hyundai models, such as the rolling lab N Vision 74, a hydrogen hybrid electric vehicle, and the 45 Ev concept car, which inspired the Ioniq 5 .
“In the age of electrification, a key condition for Hyundai to become a leader in future mobility will be our ability to remain true to the core values we have inherited,” said aehoon Chang, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor Company. “In the future, through Hyundai Reunion and other communication initiatives about our heritage, we will continue to use our past as a unique vector for our future innovation”.
