Toyota Corolla Cross, the savings of sustainable driving

Almost 4 and a half meters long, the Corolla Cross full hybrid is a perfect interpreter of the C segment. It does not lack personality, thanks to the large grille and the muscular wheel arches. We tried it by associating it with the MyT app and joining the WeHybrid program. In this way we were able to verify the benefits of sustainable driving in the form of Green Credits: 10 for every 500 km traveled on electric, to be converted into Kinto Go vouchers to purchase mobility services. And, above all, the savings guaranteed by the monthly renewable Toyota RCA coverage, called WeHybrid Insurance, with which the kilometers traveled on electric are not paid. Analyzing our result at the wheel of the Japanese manufacturer’s SUV, it emerged that out of 202 km we covered 118 in electric mode, therefore 58% of the distance was covered with zero impact. A result that has allowed us to accumulate 5 euro savings on the RCA, but which, projected over a year, based on our driving style, on 12,288 km travelled, would have helped us to cover an impressive 7,152 km in electric mode. This sustainable goal, after a year, would have earned us a good 70 euros in Green Credits, even if the most interesting figure is the savings that we would have obtained at RCA level: a good 286 euros. It follows that careful driving of a hybrid Toyota, associated with the WeHbrid program, allows you to lighten the costs related to the car which, these days, is certainly not a trivial matter. In fact, in a 12-month period our total economic benefit, accumulated behind the wheel of the Toyota Corolla Cross, would have been 356 euros.

The procedure for associating the car with the app is simple, because once the application has been downloaded to your smartphone, you just need to scan the QR Code that appears on the infotainment system screen and activate the connected services. In this way, in addition to carrying out certain operations remotely, such as adjusting the climate control before setting off, locking or unlocking the doors, or finding the exact position of the car in real time, information is also received if the car is not locked correctly. Furthermore, with the Hybrid Coach it is possible to evaluate the score obtained for sustainable driving, know the percentage of journeys made in electric mode, and km traveled with zero impact.
The Corolla Cross with its power unit, which combines the electric compartment with a 2.0 internal combustion engine, for a system power of 197 HP, boasts brilliant performance, as demonstrated by the data relating to maximum speed and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h, of 180 km/h and 7.7 seconds respectively, but driven in the right way, making the most of the electric motor as much as possible, consumption can drop to around 4.6 l/100 km on extra-urban routes. In any case, the average of about 20 km/l for a C-segment SUV is an excellent result and allows you to go a long way on a full tank. For the rest, the car boasts abundant interior space both front and rear, while the 433-litre boot, with practical rubber protection, is family-proof. In the passenger compartment, in the center of the dashboard, the 10.5-inch screen dedicated to infotainment stands out, which also connects to the smartphone wirelessly and receives updates over the air, while the digital instrumentation uses a 12.3-inch screen and she is always generous with information. At the wheel it offers great visibility in all directions, thanks to the large glazed surfaces, and the behavior is healthy: with stability that is proof of motorway bends and tight mixed terrain, and a body roll that helps comfort without affecting the dynamic performance. The Corolla Cross price list starts at 38,800 euros, and the equipment boasts adaptive cruise control as standard right from the entry version.
