Renault CEO, ‘cars responsible for 10% pollution’

“Transport is a quarter of the pollution that is generated every year. The automobile part is about 10-11%. We are a tenth of the problem, but it is a fairly significant problem. But we must try to get to zero. Anything that helps us reduce exhaust smoke is quite an interesting mission.
It might not even be just electric, we could talk about hydrogen, new fuels”. read around, make decisions. We must remind ourselves that there are more than a million deaths from road accidents on the planet. It’s a kind of massacre. Even just saving one, ten lives is essential. It is vital that cars anticipate potential human error, because 90% of accidents happen because there was human distraction.
In my opinion, it’s a battle worth fighting,” added De Meo.
“There is a challenge that we have to solve with the authorities. We need an industrial strategy” De Meo said again. “The regulator must tell us where they want us to go, but not exactly how to do it. We must leave this to the technicians, to the engineers. I too continue to preach that they leave us the possibility of finding solutions,” added the Renault CEO . The auto industry, De Meo said, is working to “make batteries the dominant technology.” There are “250 billion invested in battery-powered cars by the European industry, but it is clear that if there are no charging points, people will not buy electric cars”. “One of the things that needs attention is the ability to connect the dots”, added the CEO of Renault, “otherwise – he said – we will be strategically dependent on China”.
“Tomorrow morning I would hope that there will be a review of this intention of the European Community to bring the Euro 7”. This was stated by the managing director of Renault, and president of Acea, Luca De Meo, who added: “The Italian government has taken a clear position in this sense and I thank it for the support”.
