The Mercedes-Benz battery-electric commercial vehicle for long-haul transport is on its way. This coming October, Mercedes-Benz Trucks will present the production version of the previous eActros LongHaul in a world premiere in a new design and under the new name eActros 600.
The designation 600 refers to the battery capacity in kilowatt hours, as is the case with the eActros 300/400 for short-haulage. The high battery capacity and a new, particularly efficient electric drive axle developed in-house enable a range of around 500 kilometers without stops for recharging.
Thanks to its low energy consumption, the e-truck is designed to be the most economical long-distance commercial vehicle from Mercedes-Benz Trucks compared to the conventionally diesel-powered Actros. The manufacturer expects the e-truck to significantly accelerate the profound transformation of road freight transport towards zero-CO2 driving.
Since the first appearance of the electric truck concept as a prototype at the IAA Transportation 2022, further test vehicles have been built at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Wörth, with core components from the Mercedes-Benz plants in Mannheim, Kassel and Gaggenau.
“The eActros 600, manufactured in Wörth – commented Karin Rådström, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Trucks – is able to replace the majority of diesel industrial vehicles in the important segment of long-haul transport, as it sets new standards in terms cost-effectiveness for our customers.
It also has all the potential to reduce CO2 emissions. I’m sure this truck will set the new benchmark for road freight transport.”
The prototypes of the vehicle were put through their paces during winter testing in Finland earlier this year. A fleet of around fifty prototype vehicles is currently under production, which will undergo practical tests with the first customers in the next phase. At the same time, the four plants are making great efforts as they prepare for series production of the eActros 600 or important components.
Series production of the e-truck is planned for 2024.
