The used car market grows in June

The growth on the front of the second-hand market recorded a growth of 9.5% last June. The data is that contained in the new monthly bulletin ‘Auto-trend’, produced by the Automobile Club of Italy and which is based on data from the Public Automobile Register. Among the data contained in the new number there is the growth (+9.5%) also of the transfers of ownership of cars purged of mini-transfers, ie temporary transfers in the name of the dealer pending resale to the end customer).
Growth rises to 12.1% gross of mini-transfers, with 417,095 formalities against 372,214 in June 2022. This is thanks to the increase (+15.9%) in mini-transfers, with 174,253 mini-transfers compared to 150,391 in June 2022. On the other hand, the transfers of motorcycles, net of mini-transfers, decreased (-7.6%), with 64,058 applications against 69,318 in June 2022.
Vehicles in general, net of mini-transfers, recorded an increase of 5.2% compared to June 2022. Overall, changes of ownership, net of mini-transfers, amounted to 242,842 for cars alone and 345,274 for all the vehicles. In June 2022 they were, respectively, 221,823 and 328,278.
In June 2023, for every 100 new cars, 168 used cars were sold. The January-June 2023 period closed with increases of 6.6% for cars and 4.4% for all vehicles, against a decrease of 3.3% for motorcycles.
In June, compared to the same month in 2022, radiation from passenger cars returned to the negative sign. The decrease was 12.9% and mainly attributable to the decrease in demolitions (-16.2%), with 86,067 practices against 98,771 in June 2022. The unit replacement rate was 0.59 in June (59 were deregistered for every 100 new cars) and at 0.60 in the first six months of the year.
There was also a monthly contraction for motorcycle radiation, with a negative variation of 14.8% and 10,228 motorcycles radiated against 12,001 in June 2022. Finally, a drop of 12.8% was noted for vehicles in general: 105,224 radiations compared to 120,603 in June last year. In the first half of 2023, decreases of 10.1% for passenger cars and 9.2% for all vehicles were observed, against a growth of 0.6% for motorcycles.
