The German manufacturer ELegend is starting – after the presentation of the prototype – the production of 30 examples of the EL1, a hyper-technological and 100% electric reproduction of the iconic Audi Sport Quattro from 1984. Each EL1 will be built by hand and will be sold at a price of 890,000 euros customizations and taxes excluded.
Designed from scratch as a third millennium homage to the Audi Sport Quattro, one of the models that wrote the history of technological innovation and rallying, the ELegend EL1 contains supercar materials and EV technology under a body which however has different proportions compared to the short wheelbase ancestor.
The overall look, triple bonnet vents and protruding wheel arches are strong ties to the original, but the EL1 boasts a very different construction.
Under the ‘skin’ there is in fact a carbon fiber monocoque, with aluminum frames underneath. The suspensions are double wishbone front and rear and adapt in response to the selectable driving modes (Standard and Sport).
This modern replica is not as light as the Sport Quattro (which weighed 1,090 kg) but in the 805 HP dual electric motor configuration and with an 80 kWh T-shaped battery pack mounted in the central tunnel and behind the front seats, it touches the 1,790 kg.
The performance is supercar-like as the EL1 sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds, with a top speed of 300 km/h. The Wltp autonomy declared by ELegend is 400 km but the company is correct in declaring that the energy reserve ‘can be depleted quickly when maximum performance is exploited’.
