Toyota currently already sells the Crown model hybrid sedan in the United States but starting next year the Crown Signia crossover – with its electrified car look and an elegant yet practical body – will certainly end up widening the customer base towards a range (up to currently the prerogative in the USA of the Lexus brand only) also interested in the values of premiumness.
With Signia the Crown name joins the SUV/crossover club for the first time and “takes all the exceptional attributes of the Toyota Crown name – said David Christ, vice president of the TMNA group during the presentation in Malibu – modeling them in a package functional and sophisticated that customers will love.”
“This is the first-ever entry into the crossover SUV category for Toyota’s longest-standing brand, and shows how the company continues to elevate its designs, deliver premium quality and take hybrid efficiency in versatile new directions.” .
Crown Signia – which is built in Japan on the Toyota New Global Architecture K (Tnga-K) platform – will be offered in the USA with only one type of propulsion, namely the Toyota Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) system with on-demand all-wheel drive. The 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine is coupled to two electric units for a total system power of 243 HP.
Distinctive elements of the Crown Signia are its sporty and reassuring appearance at the same time (with the Toyota Hammerhead front featuring a grille finished with geometric elements), the 21-inch wheels and the fluid line of the roof which however does not detract from the functionality of the load.
With the debut of the Crown Signia, Toyota will soon have 19 electrified models in the United States and this particular car – classified as Super Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (Sulev) – will play a significant role in achieving the Japanese giant’s Beyond Zero vision which aims to achieve carbon neutrality with products, services and operations.
