Extreme tests for the Lotus Emeya in Finland

Electric cars, like combustion cars, must be functional in all weather conditions, so Lotus subjected the Emeya to a test program, the last part of which took place in Finland. Specifically, the final phase was completed approximately 250 km inside the Arctic Circle, where temperatures reached -25 degrees. Despite the particularly harsh climate, the development team tested the car artificially by taking it down to -40 degrees.
In the Arctic testing programme, Lotus engineers focused on suspension, steering, brakes, traction and stability controls, to ensure the right vehicle dynamics on surfaces such as ice and snow. Finally, they worked to guarantee the use of the battery even in extreme climatic conditions, and to calibrate the air conditioning and thermal management systems, in order to guarantee maximum efficiency even in certain climatic contexts.

Overall, the test and development program involved 15 countries on 2 continents and lasted 3 years. In this period of time the English company’s sedan has been used in the most disparate contexts: from the secondary roads of the United Kingdom, up to Mongolia, passing through the Alpine passes, for the inevitable stop at the Nürburgring, and also for the Nardò plant , in Puglia. Furthermore, he experienced both extreme cold and extreme heat.
Subsequently, further tests will be carried out in the Middle East, the United States and Australia, before the car is delivered to these markets.
