There are now on the fingers of one hand the car manufacturers (all premium) which offer high performance variants of station wagon models, erroneously considered a type widely overcome by crossover and SUVs and, equally, far from the world of high powers and high speeds.
Meeting (and above all driving) a car such as the BMW M340i XDrive Touring therefore takes on a special value, because it brings in the field of usability – that offered by a 500 -liter trunk – extensive up to 1,510 – also the DNA that generates performance and emotions of the BMW family M.
It should be immediately underlined that the M340i is a specific setting, tailored to Touring. It offers significant hardware updates, such as the presence of enhanced brakes, such as adaptive shock absorbers and such as the electron control self -locking rear differential.
A ‘package’ of content that makes the BMW M340i XDrive Touring suitable for extreme driving situations, such as the track sessions, but also in the use of everyday, under the BMW hood has chosen its 3.0 B58 for this ‘wagon’ equipped with a double turbo with variable palettes. A very ready -made six -cylinder is fluid ‘in the responses.
Which, to make the guide (including ‘tears’), uses an efficient 48 volt Mild-Hybrid system, suitable not only to improve consumption and emissions and related homologations, but also to provide an additional thrust already at the lower regimes, when you feel the turbo effect less.
It is useful to remember that the 48 volt generator/starter creates a push that immediately makes 8 kW available, that is, 11 HP and increases not only the overall power but makes possible strategies that increase efficiency.
The start-stop car (already 15 km/h) and above the sail are possible. If the conditions allow it, for example when the accelerator is raised on a flat stretch, the car proceeds for inertia on the highway, with the generator/starter at 48 volts who gently rekindles the 6 cylinder.
Those who sit behind the wheel of M340i XDrive Touring therefore have 374 HP and 500 Nm of maximum torque available, but also all the control and adjustment tools to calibrate the behavior and answers that the pilot (OPS, the driver) decides to exploit.
Like all performance cars (0-100 in 4.6 seconds, 250 km/h of maximum electronically limited speed) M340i requires a certain adaptation, and to optimize the driving position – almost racing – but also to become familiar with the calibration of the frame, brakes and steering and above all of the change points (although electronically regulated) of the excellent 8 -speed Steptronic.
The soul of the M340i XDrive Touring is double and surprising.
Everything passes through the Drive Mode Selector which provides for comfort, sport, and sport+positions. The XDrive all -wheel drive system restarts the torque in a variable way between the Avantreno and the retrotrene, favoring the rear wheels in the Sport and Sport+modes. M340i XDrive Touring also provides Eco Pro mode for more efficient guide.
In particular, this intelligent all -wheel drive scheme ensures the optimal distribution of the torque using a clutch to electronically controlled multiple controlled records in the distributor. In the M340i he works in tandem with the Dynamic Stability Control and all reacts instantly to changes in the driving situation.
For the most experts, the possibility of downloading a greater torque on the rear wheels is foreseen – in the Sport Plus modes and therefore be able to guide the car in overterk of Potenza, with a drift made even more spectacular given that this sporty still remains a wagon.
All for a price list that starts from 79,800 euros, and 82,050 with the M Sport Pro package.
