(ANSA) – MILAN, FEBRUARY 17 – Air France-KLM is closely watching the Ita sales process and could also participate in it through its partners, “but we are not losing sleep”. CEO Ben Smith said this during a conference call on the airline’s 2021 accounts.
Smith, according to Bloomberg reports, recalled that Air France-KLM has made two unsuccessful attempts on Alitalia and “to do it a third time” on Ita “if and when we had the flexibility to do so, we would have to find ourselves in a very risky zone. more comfortable”.
Italy is strategically important but “it’s not at the top of our list or something we’re losing sleep on,” added the CEO of Air France-KLM, explaining that with partners, it’s not just airlines, “we are evaluating ways of participating in the consolidation that may not involve a direct investment on our part”.
In 2021, Air France-KLM recorded a net loss of 3.3 billion, about half compared to 2020, the ‘annus horribilis’ for world airlines, however saying it was “optimistic for the future” after a better fourth quarter than estimates. Total revenues last year grew 29% to 14.3 billion, still far below the 27.2 billion of pre-Covid 2019.
