Banks: ABI, bad loans increased to 18.2 billion in January

(ANSA) – MILAN, MARCH 15 – The quality of credit worsens slightly with bad loans that start to increase again … According to what emerges from the ABI monthly report, net bad loans – that is, net of the write-downs and provisions already made by banks with their own resources – in January 2022 they increased by 3 billion, to 18.2 billion euros, compared to the figure of December 2021 (15.2 billion).

The ratio of net non-performing loans to total loans was 1.04% in January 2022, (it was 0.87% in December 2021, 1.14% in January 2021, 1.55% in January 2020 and 4.89% on November 2015).

Also in February, bank loans to businesses and households accelerate. The ABI indicates a + 2.3% compared to a year ago while in January the growth was equal to 1.9 percent.

Bank deposits remained stable at 1,831 billion, after 1,829.6 billion in January. The trend variation is equal to + 4.5%.

Funding stands at € 2,033 billion (+ 3.3% year on year). As for interest rates on financing transactions, they remain particularly low. Those on mortgages rise to 1.49% in February, from 1.45% in January. For businesses, they drop to 1.10% from 1.12%. (HANDLE).
