“We absolutely must avoid another recession.” Economy Minister Daniele Franco said this at the Confcommercio-Ambrosetti Forum.
Franco recalled that, compared to the 2022 growth estimate lowered to about 3% in the Def, “there are less favorable forecasts, I believe that different hypotheses can be made about what will happen in the next weeks and months” compared to the war.
“We still have various positive indicators on the robustness of our economy, tourism, transport, data on recovery expectations and international trade. Is everything okay? No, it is clear that the risks are enormous” ..
According to the minister, if necessary to defend the economy from the impact of the war, further “even ambitious” economic policy interventions by both Italy and the EU will be needed, which “must adapt to changing circumstances”.
However, “there are limits to what we can do by increasing the deficit, the path is narrow”.
