How will it not be before? Prices in Ukrainian supermarkets have changed dramatically

Destruction of infrastructure, shortage of fuel, slowdown in business activity, migration of the able-bodied population to the western regions and abroad – all these negative processes increase the seasonal fluctuation in food prices.

According to Zakaz.ua food delivery service data, as of today, prices in supermarkets have already increased by an average of 13% compared to the pre-war period.

How has the price of socially important goods changed?

Since since the beginning of the full-scale war on the territory of Ukraine, the state has introduced price controls on essential goods (flour, pasta, bread, meat, milk, etc.), their prices have not changed significantly. The same long loaf and buckwheat cost as much as on February 23rd.

However, the price of sugar (by 32%) and milk (by 22%) rose significantly.

How has the cost of vegetables and fruits changed?

With vegetables and fruits, we see a slightly different situation: martial law significant impact on their value.

A large percentage of these goods on the shelves of domestic stores came from foreign suppliers. In the conditions of a closed sky and blocked ports, imports can only be delivered by trucks from the EU, and not by sea transport from Turkey or Egypt, Zakaz.ua experts say.

In this regard, during the two months of the war tomatoes have almost doubled in price. Potatoes rose in price by an average of 23%, onions and carrots by 20%. However, there are vegetables, which, contrary to the dynamic statistics of appreciation, on the contrary, have fallen in price. We are talking about beets and cucumbers, which fell by 14% and 22%, respectively.

If we talk about fruits, here almost the entire range has increased in price:

• apples grew by 13%;
• citrus fruits – by 33%;
• bananas – by 66% (before February 23, they cost an average of 30 UAH, and now – 45-60 UAH).
