ECB: GDP prospects still positive in the third quarter

(ANSA) – ROME, MAY 19 – The growth prospects of the euro area for the third quarter “are still relatively positive” thanks to the boost of tourism and despite the uncertainty created by the war, the worsening of confidence, the rise in prices energy and the repercussions to global trade from lockdowns in China. This is what the governors of the ECB concluded in the April meeting. According to the minutes of the meeting, “the assessment for the fourth quarter also remains positive” and “so far the assessment is that the war will lead to a temporary slowdown in growth, but not to a persistent downsizing”.

Also in the same Governing Council in April, the ECB noted that the most recent economic developments “suggest that inflation rates will remain very high in the short term” amid the uncertainties of energy prices, with the same indicators of inflation from sources “rising beyond 2% in recent months “.
