(ANSA) – ROME, MAY 27 – In April 2022 “exports to non-EU countries continue their growth on a monthly basis, uninterrupted since the beginning of the year and driven above all by sales of energy and non-durable consumer goods”, according to Istat data which recorded an increase compared to March of 1.9% for exports and 6.4% for imports.
“On an annual basis, export growth is slowing down (+ 11.8%, it was + 22.2% in March); this trend, however, is partly conditioned by occasional high-impact operations (shipbuilding) , recorded in April 2021, net of which growth is more sustained (+ 13.6%) “, reads a note. The increase, extended to all groupings with the exception of capital goods (-1.7%), is particularly accentuated for energy (+ 134.8%).
Istat explains that purchases of energy products account for more than two thirds of the “strong trend increase in Italian imports from non-EU countries” (+ 59.3%). The energy deficit widens considerably and exceeds 30 billion in the first four months of the year; in the same period, the trade deficit reached 8,504 million, compared with a surplus of 15,588 million in the first four months of 2021.
