(ANSA) – ROME, June 10 – The first Supercomputing Center in Italy becomes even more powerful, and one of the most advanced structures in Europe, which creates and develops scenarios and models on the future of the climate, dedicating itself to research on climate change and their interactions with society and economic systems. It is the heart of the Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change (Cmcc), which inaugurated today in Lecce, where it is based, the new pole of climate sciences covering 3,300 square meters – renovated and set up thanks to the Regional Development Fund and cohesion 2014-2020 – which hosts, among other things, a multidisciplinary and international task force of scientists and spaces for events and dissemination activities to broaden the impact of science on society.

For the inauguration, the event “Foresight Dialogues. The future of the planet and of people” was organized in Lecce, a public meeting with scientists, experts, political decision-makers for a multi-voiced debate on methods and tools “to improve knowledge. science and public awareness of one of the most advanced challenges of our times “, explains Cmcc.

The renewed Research Center consolidates its role in the Lecce and Apulian areas, also showing itself as “a leading player in the avant-garde international scientific community which makes the Salento capital a world outpost for the production and sharing of knowledge about the future”.

The new building completes the network of offices in Italy (Bologna, Caserta, Milan, Rome, Sassari, Venice and Viterbo) which connects universities and research institutes in a highly interdisciplinary “collaboration aimed at developing and promoting knowledge in the field of climate”. (HANDLE).
