U.S. President Joe Biden will comment on gas prices on June 22 and call for a temporary repeal of the federal gasoline tax.

This is reported by the WSJ.

However, Biden did not provide any details about the speech.

The White House said the issue had been discussed by the president and his advisers for months at the height of political pressure to address record high gas prices.

Suspending the 18.4-cent-per-gallon federal tax on gasoline would require congressional approval, the publication said, so a Biden move that would support that effort would largely symbolic.

Dynamics of the cost of gasoline in the United States

Over the past 12 months, the cost of fuel in the United States has risen by 62% to a record high of $5 per gallon (3.8 liters).

However, on June 17, for the first time in more than two months, the cost of gasoline in the United States fell. This happened, according to CBS News, against the backdrop of lower oil prices and falling consumer demand.

On Friday (June 17), the national average dropped to $4.99 a gallon, according to Patrick De Haan, an analyst with GasBuddy.

“Based on market conditions right now – they can and do change – the national average could drop to $4.55-$4.75 a gallon in the coming weeks if trends don’t change,” he noted.
