Farmers predict that buckwheat prices will decrease after harvest. By November, the wholesale price of a ton of cereals may fall from the current 40,000 hryvnias to about 25,000 hryvnias. In fact, in the near future, its price will almost halve – from 90 to 45 UAH per kg.

This was told to Telegraph by the chairman of the International Association of Buckwheat Producers and Processors Nikolay Malienko.

So, according to him, after a sharp drop in buckwheat crops from 100,000 hectares to 67,000 and an increase in prices for it in 2021, farmers are increasing the area under this crop.

“For example, according to my calculations, about 120-130 thousand hectares were allocated for it this year, with an average yield of 1 ton per hectare, which is quite realistic, we can get 120-130 thousand tons of buckwheat in the fall, which is quite enough for domestic needs. countries”, – said Nikolai Malienko.

Such prerequisites will help reduce the retail price of buckwheat in stores in November to about UAH 45-50 per kilogram.

How much is cereal now?

According to the Ministry of Finance, the cost of buckwheat has increased since the beginning of the war by UAH 39.42 (from UAH 50.48 in February to UAH 89.90 in June). In fact, every month the cereal beat its own records. Only in June its price increased by UAH 17.37 (from UAH 72.53 in May to UAH 89.90 in June).

As Malienko explained, the rise in prices is due to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, as well as partly its exports abroad. But still, the main reason for changes in prices for cereals is its availability.
