Digital: Mitd, awarded all races for fast internet

(ANSA) – ROME, JUN 29 – All the tenders to bring fast internet to the country have been assigned, a goal set by the Pnrr. The calls for tenders for the new 5g mobile networks and for the 15th lot for Italy at 1 gig have been concluded – the Ministry for Technological Innovation and Digital Transition announced. “I am very satisfied – Minister Vittorio Colao said – In 13 months we approved the Italian strategy, obtained the European authorizations, published and assigned all the PNRR calls and invested a value of about 5.5 billion euros, with the ambitious goal of connecting all of Italy by 2026 with very high-speed fixed and mobile networks “With the award of the tender dedicated to the creation of new 5G networks in the areas of Italy without fast mobile internet and that for the last batch of the 1 Giga Italy call – says Mitd – the PNRR objective of assigning all the tenders envisaged by the Italian strategy for ultra-broadband – Towards the Gigabit society by June 2022 has been achieved.

Italy will be the first country in Europe to have, thanks to public intervention, high-performance 5G mobile networks entirely bound in optical fiber, capable of guaranteeing very high speed and minimum latency everywhere.

The call for tenders, managed by Infratel Italia on the basis of the agreement stipulated with the Department for digital transformation and Invitalia, awarded approximately 346 million euros and includes 6 geographical areas (the so-called lots) that have been assigned to the temporary grouping of companies composed by Inwit, Vodafone and Tim. The loan covers up to 90% of the total cost of the works. All the other interested operators will have wholesale access to the infrastructures financed according to the conditions defined by the Authority for the guarantees in communications (Agcom).

The 15th lot of the “Italia a 1 Giga” tender, relating to the coverage with fixed networks of the autonomous provinces of Trento and Bolzano and equal to 65 million euros, was instead assigned to Tim. (HANDLE).
