Ukrainians began to use taxi services less, not only because of the war, but also because of the rise in price

Taxi trips have risen in price by 10-50% since the beginning of the war, depending on the region. At the same time, demand was reduced by at least half.

Liga.net was informed about this by representatives of Bolt and Uklon.

As told in the Bolt service, the rise in price occurred in March 2022 in all regions of the country.

“Before the war, a trip in Kyiv from Maidan Nezalezhnosti to the Central Railway Station cost about 70 UAH, but now the cost is about 80-85 UAH”– said Sergiy Pavlik, Head of Travel Booking at Bolt in Ukraine.

Now there is an increase in the average check in the cities by about 50% of the pre-war figure.

Uklon estimated the growth of the average check in Ukraine at 10%. The revision of tariffs in the company takes place regularly, but if market conditions allow.

“There are settlements where the base rate has already been raised in two or three stages, so as not to provoke a refusal of driver services. After all, for most drivers, Uklon has become the main place of income”the company said.

In May, Uklon’s figures fell by a third, the gap in April was 44%. If we compare the current figures with those in February, the number of orders in the company, the amount of revenue and commissions have decreased by 2.5 times. For example, in Kyiv, order a taxi less by 45%, but the Uklon car fleet has not decreased.

Bolt also goes through similar problems. However, now demand has begun to stabilize – the number of trips is already more than half of the pre-war figures.

War and Taxi

After Russia unleashed a big war against Ukraine, many services were stopped in the war zones, including taxi drivers who left the market.

In mid-April, the Uber service announced the resumption of work in Kyiv after receiving permission from local authorities.

At the same time, taxi services that operate in Ukraine also provided a lot of support during the war. They carry the military, volunteers and doctors for free. Drivers can donate money from the trip to humanitarian aid, transporting both food and essential goods from abroad.
