What is happening in the foreign exchange market of Ukraine?

Earlier, Maxim Oryshchak, an analyst at the Center for Exchange Technologies, told Segodnya that from 4 to 10 June,the selling rate of the US dollar will fluctuate within 35.4 – 36 hryvnia per dollar.

According to the expert, the hryvnia is supported by:

  • sufficiency of the country’s gold and foreign exchange reserves for interventions (more than 25 million US dollars);
  • financial grant from the USA in the amount of 1.3 billion dollars and a seasonal factor.

Oryshchak believes that in summer the demand for currency from the population will not grow.

At the same time, the weakness of the hryvnia is supported by the ongoing war, which still threatens to default, as well as the upcoming floating hryvnia exchange rate.

However Oryshchak do not expect a sharp drop hryvnia is higher than 40 per dollar, and there are several reasons for this – banks will not buy currency at this rate, as they themselves set the buying and selling rate in the country.

And secondly, while the country’s external financing is preserved – default is not to be expected.

Well, the third factor is the low demand for currency from the population in July. Therefore, even if the NBU releases the “frozen” exchange rate, it will not give a devaluation impetus, just like the printed hryvnia.

Segodnya previously wrote what to expect from the US currency rate in July and told how long the NBU would keep it frozen.
