The war and the economic situation in the country have greatly changed the purchasing power of Ukrainians, who have now switched to food at affordable prices.

As the head of the GR department of the Association of Retailers of Ukraine Natalya Petrovskaya said in a comment to UNIAN, essential products and goods with a long shelf life are in demand.

Among the priorities of Ukrainians are the following goods:

  • eggs;
  • milk;
  • sugar;
  • cereals;
  • seasonal vegetables and fruits.

According to the expert, some other goods cannot be imported into the country now, and some have become unaffordable for shop customers, so they are bought less. General consumer trends have also been affected by restrictions, such as alcoholic beverages.

Demand for foodstuffs during the war changes under the influence of hype, as was the case with buckwheat, salt, and sugar. In supermarket chains, these products are actively sold even in the first month of summer, along with soda and vinegar – they are bought 2-3, sometimes 4 times more often than before.

Prices in Mariupol

The temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine are experiencing a price crisis – the occupiers set not just an inflated price for goods, but sky-high prices. Basic products, especially hygiene products, are three times more expensive

According to the Mariupol City Council, people do not have jobs, money or humanitarian aid, but they see the most necessary things on the shelves that they cannot buy. Thus, probably, the invaders are once again mocking the Ukrainians.

The published photos show that the usual dishwashing detergent is sold for 108 UAH (in the territory controlled by Ukraine, the price is 30 UAH). A jar of shampoo costs UAH 185, while the normal price is around UAH 60. Packing sponges for washing dishes – 71 UAH, and under normal conditions – 27 UAH.

Worst of all, basic hygiene products are also sold at exorbitant prices. For a package of baby diapers, they set a price of UAH 1,680, while similar products usually cost UAH 500-700. Women’s pads were estimated at almost 100 UAH. for a few pieces, and on the shelves of supermarkets in Ukraine they can be bought for 37 UAH.

Segodnya previously reported that a chain of McDonald’s restaurants should soon reopen in Ukraine, and they also wrote about current offers and real estate prices from developers in Kharkiv.
